Development Cooperation
The Development Cooperation Program 2008 has a total budget of about CHF 12 million (USD 11.8 million).

In the field of Livelihood Improvement, SDC works with six different implementing partners, namely National Solidarity Program (NSP), Afghanaid, Aga Khan Foundation, Helvetas, Oxfam UK and Terre des Hommes. The projects are implemented in the provinces of Badakhshan, Baghlan, Bamiyan, Samangan and Takhar.

In the area of Governance and Protection SDC supports new initiatives such as the Civil Service Leadership Development Program (CSLD) and Afghanistan Sub-national Governance Program, which aims at building the capacities of provincial and district administrations. Furthermore, SDC continues supporting selected country-wide projects such as the Law and Order Trust Fund (Gender and Human Rights mainstreaming within the police sector), Elimination of Violence Against Women (a trust fund managed by UNIFEM), the Independent National Human Rights Commission (AIHRC), the Civil Society Human Rights Network (CSHRN), and institutional capacity building of the Afghanistan Civil Society Forum (ACSF). SDC has also provided financial support to the Afghanistan Evaluation and Research Unit (AREU).
